The Glam Goth Catwalks

Gothic Catwalks at Paris Fashion ShowSay hello to goth's sexy older sister - dark, dramatic, and with a hint of the Edwardian heroine, she played muse to a coven of designers.

With Twilight Eclipse in the cinema and a number of Vampire based shows on our TV screens it seems inevitable that the designers would catch onto the Gothic fashion trend and for this autumn/winter they have done just that.

Glam Gothic fashion as it has been dubbed was seen on the catwalks of Christopher Kane, Valentino, Givency, Alexander Wang and it’s a grown up take on the vampire look made popular by the likes of Twilight.

According to Instyle magazine: “Designers delved into their dark side this season with goth-inspired collections, contrasting luxe fabrics to create hard-edged looks.”

“Proenza Schouler sent out pale-faced, dark-haired mavens who epitomised the whole mood of this trend – think modern after-dark vamp prowling downtown bars.”

While Marie Claire advises us to “say hello to Goth’s sexy older sister- dark dramatic and with a hint of the Edwardian heroine, she played muse to a coven of designers.”

Online fashion store Very.co.uk have taken this trend and applied it to many of their pieces in the Autumn/Winter collection. With items designed exclusively for Very by Fearne Cotton such as this gorgeous lace hoodie and this twist on the gothic lace dress, by using white lace and adding a beautiful bow detail tot he neckline.

Gothic Catwalks The Glam Goth in Paris Fashion ShowLace dresses was a key trend on the catwalks and it’s the easiest way to nail this look with Vogue reporting “Fashion has fallen in love with lace – from sweetly pretty day Gothic dresses to sensual see-through gowns and blouses.”

And one of the seminal shoe trends on the catwalks was the black lace ankle boot seen at Dior which can add a gothic twist to any outfit and it’s a style that is bound to be copied on the high street. If a boot is not your thing then go for a shoe with lace detailing – I’ve already noticed them popping up on the high street so they are bound to crop up more over autumn and winter. Or how about a sexy red heel to glam up a black outfit or even a pair of bondage sandals which will go well with a gothic inspired outfit.

However, Instyle does have a piece of advice for anyone looking to copy the style – “Don’t go “matchy mathcy” – lace on tights bag and shoes is too much.” So maybe stick to a sexy pair of lacy shoes then!

Gothic Brides with Lace Wedding Dresses

Lace Wedding Dresses PicturesLace wedding dresses is become big news in the bridal industry today, especially after the Royal Wedding 2011. The stunning Kate Middleton’s wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton more or less will influence the next direction of the bridal dresses trends this year. And with the trend for vintage inspired weddings looking set to continue, a lace wedding dress will be on the wish list of many a bride to be.

However, what do brides love about lace?

In our teens and early twenties, many of us associate lace with our grannies and think of it as an old fashioned material that we would never wear. Then suddenly, the moment a girl steps into a bridal store, she seems to fall in love with the first lace wedding dress she sees. Here are seven of the reasons that lace will always be a popular option with brides.

1. Lace is bridal
Lace is beautiful, delicate, feminine, elegant, whimsical and classical all at the same time, and these are exactly the qualities to look for in a bridal outfit. A lace wedding dress can be girly yet graceful, and fun yet formal, so it works for just about any type of wedding.

2. Lace is flattering
While sheer fabrics can emphasise lumps and bumps, lace skims neatly over them and the pattern draws the eye away. Lace smoothes and slims chunkier brides, but can also add bulk to skinny brides if a larger pattern is used.

3. Lace adds texture
A plain white or ivory bridal gown can be difficult to customise and add character to, but a lace wedding dress has added depth and texture. The style, material and pattern of the lace can make a real difference to the overall look and feel of the gown.

4. Lace is versatile
Not all brides want a complete lace wedding dress, but lace can also be used to add minor details. A lace overlay on top of a silk gown is a popular choice, as are delicate lace sleeves with a predominantly silk dress, or a lace bodice with a silk skirt. Lace details can be used at the waist, on the train, around the hem of the dress, or on the veil. Lace can also be used to make a shrug or jacket.

Whether you choose an entire Gothic lace wedding dress, or simple lace details, this fabric adds a touch of class and luxury to your bridal gown which will make it look expensive, even if it isn’t. Adding lace detail to a simple high street gown is a wonderful way to customise it and make it one of a kind.

6. Lace is timeless
There are a wide variety of lace patterns and styles available, and a lace wedding dress can have a vintage or a modern appearance. Gothic brides have been wearing Gothic wedding dresses made by lace for many years and it doesn’t look set to go out of fashion just yet. Re-embroidered floral designs such as alencon or chantilly lace are currently very popular.

7. Lace makes a great theme
Whether your wedding theme is simply lace, or whether you have a Gothic vintage theme that your lace wedding dress works well with, it is easy to incorporate lace into your wedding design. Lace can be used in wedding stationery, bombonieres, table decorations, and floral arrangements and adds a classic elegance to your wedding decorations.
