The bride wasn't the only one to walk down the aisle in Alexander McQueen's dresses, nor, for that matter, in white: in a break with tradition, Pippa Middleton, 27, the younger sister and maid-of-honour of Kate, wore an ivory cowl neck dress cut on the bias with cap sleeves by Sarah Burton for McQueen, holding the hands of the four young bridesmaids, who were adorable in cream dresses with full skirts and sashes.

The cowl neck and a row of small buttons running down the back were the only decorative flourishes, ensuring Pippa would not overshadow Kate on her big day. It was the perfect foil to her sister's more intricate lace gown.
Pippa's choice surprised those who had expected her to wear an Alice Temperley design with a cream fluid silk dress by Sarah Burton, after she was spotted with her mother, Carole, in the British designers London showroom earlier this month.
